Announcement: Workshop on Robot Benchmarking for Commercial Use: What and How?

(Sorry for crossposts.)
For those who are interested in robot benchmarking, ,

In collaboration with Robotics Society of Japan, we are pleased to organize a meeting as a NEDO-RSJ workshop (*) at IROS 2018 site.
Programs, and information will be posted to RoboPedia. http://robopedia.sakura.tv/

Title: Workshop on Robot Benchmarking for Commercial Use: What and How?
When: 1 Oct 14:30-18:30latest (half day)
Where: Novotel Campo de las Naciones, room: Madrid C (the hotel is nearby the IROS 2018 site).

What: Short talks and discussions about robot benchmarking.

Most of IROS participant may agree that robot benchmarking is important but hard to design.
There are proposals, case studies toward this purpose and competitions can be regarded as testbeds.
At NEDO (a Japanese funding agency), we discussed about benchmarking method but still far from conclusion.
Despite of its difficulty, establishment of useful benchmarking will accelerate research, development and communication between makers and users. Also it will provide a good perspective for policy makers and funding agencies.

What we can do now is to gather people and exchange ideas. IROS participants who are interested in following activities are welcome. Giving short talks (10min TBC) are encouraged.

Activities:
Robot research, engineering, potential user, competition participants (e.g., RoboCup, ARC, WRS), standard making and policy making.

For those who are attending, please send e-mail to: yamamototmy@nedo.go.jp To register, please send your name, institution, e-mail address and short talk title (if applicable).

Organizer: Tomoyuki Yamamoto, NEDO TSC (Technology Strategy Center, New Energy and Industrial Technology Developing Organization) Co-organized by NEDO TSC and RSJ (Robotics Society of Japan)

NOTE to participants:
To make a report, the meeting will be recorded.

(*) this is not an official workshop and privately held in conjunction to IROS 2018.
Programs, and information will be posted to RoboPedia. http://robopedia.sakura.tv/ To register, send your name, institution, e-mail address and short talk title (if applicable) to: yamamototmy@nedo.go.jp
